may your days be merry and bright

 IMG_3963

Christmas is two weeks away.  The rest of the world might be bustling along the city sidewalks and such, but I’m pretty much  in hibernation mode.  Being a thousand weeks pregnant finding something appealing to wear is just as exhausting as the idea of bundling up and leaving the house.  Plus, it’s like a bazillion degrees freezing and that’s no place for the likes of me.

Considering that Christmas is one month before Harper’s arrival, we aren’t traveling anywhere this year. I have to admit, that I really love this.  As in, my heart jumps for joy at the idea of waking up in my own home on Christmas with not a single place to go.  We have always traveled to one place or the other for holidays, and while seeing family is great, it can be so very exhausting.   I mean, have you ever been house guests with a two year old, nothing relaxing about that.  Nothing.

Being that this will be our last Christmas as a family of three, I can’t think of anything better than spending the entire holiday with just us, soaking in those moments before our lives change forever.  There will be baking and Christmas movies.  There will be cozy fires and lights on the tree.  There will be coffee and this breakfast casserole.  There will be gifts and stockings, and a the sweetest two year old to make it all so much fun.   We’ll prepare a small feast with crab cakes as the main attraction.  We’ll read the Christmas story and pretend that Hudson is paying attention.  And all of that sounds absolutely perfect to me.  Just perfect.

What about you friends,  what are your plans for the holidays?  What are you most excited about this year?

P.S.  In the breakfast casserole, I use sausage instead of bacon and tater tots in place of hash browns.

  1. love that image, makes me feel very happy and cheery inside :) My plans for the holidays? None right now. Maybe a last minute trip down south if price is right. It would be so awesome to watch the little one enjoy the ocean. But reality will be much more down to earth. And that's perfectly perfect with me.

  2. I haven't totally thought about Christmas day yet. We normally do one thing, but I'd rather do something else this year...just not sure others will like my idea.

I want to do a brunch, instead of dinner with extended family. I would like to just have my own dinner here with our family of four. So we'll see how well that idea goes over. =)

  3. Is that your painting? If so, it's gorgeous!

I'm sure Christmas (and December( already has you completely tuckered out, what with the chasing one babe and growing another. :) Although I'm traveling for the holidays, I'm a little bummed that I won't be spending some days snuggled up on the couch, sleeping in and watching The Grinch. Maybe next year. :)

P.S. Did you survive today, or are you totally snowed in? I haven't left home yet. It's been rather lovely. :)

  4. Yes, Bethany, that picture is one of my paintings, inspired by living here.

We did survive, I didn't leave the house either, but my husband had to work all day, so I was at home entertaining crazy man all day, oh well. At least I didn't have to venture outside.

Unfortunately, it's been days since I've left the house and I feel that today I Must go somewhere or else!

  5. Oh dear. Stay home today too. I just got home from work and it's frigid beyond frigid out there.

Our plans = an exhausting flight across the country x 2 layovers with one hyperactive lap-sitter, then spending 1 week as houseguests with in-laws along with our nearly 2-year old. Phew. It will be lovely, either way.

I will envy your cozy, relaxing, family of 3 time!

  6. Although we miss all of the family at the holidays, there is still always relaxing and wonderful about spending the holiday at home, truly relishing in the day and all that it symbolizes. You may never want to spend another Christmas away.
I'm really excited this year about Ceci joining us for Christmas and getting to share the reading of the Christmas story with her. Since I don't usually get to spend Christmas morning with her, I'm not sure how much she's actually read it.
God bless you all this Christmas season.
