i do not love book jackets, but i do love books.

Can anyone tell me why they are really necessary? Personally, I’m anti-book jackets.  Book jackets are annoying to me.   I guess they help draw in potential readers at the book store with their flashy cover art and do a semi-adequate job of marking your place, but then if you use that as your book mark, it’s almost guaranteed that they will be moved and your place will be lost for all of eternity.

Anyways, books.  As I mentioned in one of my previous posts-- reawaken the dreams, I plan on pouring myself into the pages of books that will continue to inspire and re-fresh my dreaming soul.

Here are the first three on my list.

Walking on Water, Madeleine L’Engle

A Million Miles in a Thousand Years, Donald Miller

Wide Awake, Erwin McManus

I must confess,  I have read all of them before, but they have all made such an impact on me that I am going to read them again.  These are books I would recommend to anyone who is:

a) searching for greater meaning in life

b) alive. breathing. living…. and sometimes just existing.

c) creative or feels like they are the opposite

Perhaps, you fit into one of those categories.  I hope you do, because I don’t know how I feel about ghosts reading my blog.  I can honestly say that these books will inspire you to tell better stories with your lives, refresh your creative self, and challenge you to actually, truly live.  Search Google  for quotes on living and you’ll see that a great portion of them have to do with the fact that most people never dare to live.  We’ve got a planet full of “existers” and a small portion of crazies, who are attempting to really, fully live life.  I choose group B.

If you pick up any of these books, I’d love to hear your thoughts on them.  Also, if there is a book that has truly challenged and inspired you, please share with the rest of the class.

I’m sure I’ll be including many excerpts in the coming days…

PS. It is currently still under 80 degrees here.  Glory.

  2. Is that the same Madeleine L'Engle who wrote "A Wrinkle In Time"? I loved those books when I was little! I will definitely have to give "Walking On Water" a try.

  5. I am so glad that am not alone in my dislike of book jackets! Of course, no disrespect to the artists and publishers who work so hard on them, but still. No more book jackets.

  6. This post reminds me of a post I wrote recently on books. Yes, book jackets are awful and a waste. I'm always happy to get book recommendations. I've put in a hold request for the Donald Miller book so will start with that one. This particular book has 12 requests in front of mine so it seems to have a lot of fans. Looking forward to it!
